Everything down there has to come up a stairwell.

That single fact is what makes a basement different from a garage. A garage is a flat carry to the trailer. A basement is every item, one at a time, up a narrow flight with a turn in it. It is the reason a basement that looks like a two hour job takes a day, and it is why these get put off for years.

Utah basements also hold a particular mix. Cold storage shelves full of bottled fruit and food storage that has aged out. Boxes of paperwork. Exercise equipment bought with good intentions. Old carpet and pad rolled up after a remodel. Every one of those is heavy and none of them fits back up the stairs the way it came down.

If the basement has had water in it, say so when you call. Water damaged material is disposal only, it is heavier than it looks, and it needs to be handled rather than sorted through in place.

What usually comes out of a basement

  • Cold storage shelving and expired food storage
  • Old couches, mattresses and bed frames stored down there
  • Exercise equipment, treadmills and weight benches
  • Boxes of paperwork, books and photo albums you have already been through
  • Rolled carpet and pad from an old remodel
  • Broken water softeners, dehumidifiers and utility shelving
  • Toys, cribs and children's furniture that has been outgrown

Say so on the call

  • Standing water or an active leak. That needs a plumber and a restoration company before a hauler is any use
  • Suspected mold beyond surface growth on stored items, which is an abatement job
  • Biohazardous material of any kind, which Scrap Solutions does not handle

What it costs

A storage room or a single area is often a half load, starting at $350. A full unfinished basement cleared out is usually a full load at $650 or more depending on volume. The stairs are priced into the quote, never added after.

Why this job goes to Scrap Solutions

Get the basement back.

No stair surcharge

The carry is the job. It is in the quote you agreed, not a line added at the end because it turned out to be a walk up.

Heavy is normal

Treadmills, safes, weight sets and old console TVs are ordinary basement finds and none of them change the price after the fact.

Sorted on the way out

Metal goes to Western Metals or MCR, usable furniture and household goods go to Deseret Industries, Tabitha's Way or the ReStore in Orem.

Questions

Basement Cleanout FAQ

Do you charge more because it is in the basement?

No. The stairs are part of what Tyler is quoting on when he prices the job, so there is no separate carry fee.

The basement has had water in it. Can you still clear it?

Usually yes, once the leak has been fixed and the water is gone. Water damaged material is disposal only rather than donation, and it is heavier, so mention it up front and it will be priced correctly the first time.

Can you take the old carpet out too?

Yes. Carpet and pad rolled up from a remodel is a normal part of these loads. Say roughly how many rooms it came out of so the volume is in the quote.

How much notice do you need?

Same day or next day is usually possible. Full basements take a bigger block of time, so booking a day or two out gets you a better slot.
